Recruitment has begun for the hundreds of skilled trade workers needed to build the new $450 million Northwestern Mutual headquarters in downtown Milwaukee. The construction project is expected to be completed over the next five years, and WRTP/BIG STEP is working to find qualified workers to fill these positions. Having been declared the chief workforce development arm of the project by the City of Milwaukee, WRTP/BIG STEP has partnered with several Aldermen to bring large scale resource and information events to their districts.

As more and more Baby Boomers retire from the skilled trades, we as an industry are beginning to face the realities of losing a good share of our workers. These losses beg the question of what we are doing to increase and retain the number of quality apprentices entering the trades. One of the main objectives we work to achieve here at Building Advantage is to promote the benefits of union construction and subsequently support their apprenticeship programs through relationships with Contractors, JACs, and Apprenticeship Directors.
