It’s been a while since we’ve sent out an update on our Executive Board of Directors at Building Advantage. Our Executive Board is made up of six labor and six management representatives, along with five industry advisors from across southeastern Wisconsin. Together, we work on issues of mutual concern for both sides ranging from getting our members back to work to recruiting our future workforce.
Following years of roadblocks and land disputes, we are ecstatic that the Couture will finally move forward. In mid August, environmental group Preserve Our Parks announced that after losing their first case against Milwaukee County and Barrett Visionary Development, they would not appeal the judge’s ruling and allow the Couture development to move forward. The County voted to sell the much-debated Downtown Transit Center site to Barrett Visionary Development in 2014, with hopes of moving forward with their plans to build the high rise apartment building, complete with retail and public space, and a station stop for the planned Milwaukee Street Car.
In addition to being a great asset to Milwaukee’s skyline, The Couture is a $122 million project that will significantly benefit economic development efforts locally and across the state for Building Advantage members. According to developer Rick Barrett, construction on the Couture could begin as early as 2016.
This site is just the beginning for big changes to the Milwaukee lakefront. Stay tuned!
Building Advantage Executive Director Ken Kraemer was featured on FOX 6 News last week in a segment on the development of the proposed Bucks Arena in downtown Milwaukee.
“There’s no guarantee we’re gonna get the work or not get the work, but we’ve always felt being involved at the ground level, to show our customers that we support economic development and things that benefit everyone, not just us, is important,” Kraemer said.
