Couture legal battle finally ends, could begin construction next year

Following years of roadblocks and land disputes, we are ecstatic that the Couture will finally move forward. In mid August, environmental group Preserve Our Parks announced that after losing their first case against Milwaukee County and Barrett Visionary Development, they would not appeal the judge’s ruling and allow the Couture development to move forward. The County voted to sell the much-debated Downtown Transit Center site to Barrett Visionary Development in 2014, with hopes of moving forward with their plans to build the high rise apartment building, complete with retail and public space, and a station stop for the planned Milwaukee Street Car.
In addition to being a great asset to Milwaukee’s skyline, The Couture is a $122 million project that will significantly benefit economic development efforts locally and across the state for Building Advantage members. According to developer Rick Barrett, construction on the Couture could begin as early as 2016.
This site is just the beginning for big changes to the Milwaukee lakefront. Stay tuned!
