Lighting It Up: Hurt Electric Leads the Way
Congratulations to the entire crew at Hurt Electric!
Hurt Electric Inc. of Menomonee Falls was selected as one of Inc. Magazine's 5,000 fastest growing private companies. Hurt Electric earned the spot of 1,492 on the national list and number 96 in the U.S. construction industry category. The company was also highlighted as a certified minority-owned business.
“To be ranked with the other companies on this list means a lot,” said Henry Hurt, President, Hurt Electric. “For us, it's a step in the right direction, especially with being a minority-owned business. It proves that it can be done.”
In 2002, the U.S. Department of Commerce showed that only 4.71 percent of Wisconsin's total businesses were minority-owned, while 18.3 percent of national businesses are minority owned.
John Topp, Executive Director of Building Advantage, stated, “Henry is a perfect example of how drive and determination can lead to success in life and in the construction industry. Through his work with labor advancement associations and his commitment to employing local union electricians, he has shown that success is a product of one's hard work. Henry is an asset to our area and he should be viewed as a role model to all.”
Henry Hurt started Hurt Electric on the North side of Milwaukee in 1996 and relocated to a larger facility in Menomonee Falls in 2001. Hurt is a union contractor and a certified master electrician. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Building and Industry Group Skilled Trades Employment Program (BIG STEP), National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), State of Wisconsin Apprenticeship Council, The Business Council, the MATC Electrical Construction and Bradley Tech Construction Academies. Hurt is also affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 494 (IBEW) and Building Advantage.
Hurt Electric has worked on local projects that include Miller Park, educational institutions, manufacturing plants and telecommunications utility facilities, helping make Milwaukee a great place to live, work and play.
