Award-winning General Contractors

A big congratulations to both J.P. Cullen & Sons and C.G. Schmidt on their recent award wins for two high profile projects. J.P. Cullen has won several awards for their work on the Milwaukee City Hall Restoration. C.G. Schmidt's handiwork led to an American Institute of Architects 2009 Wisconsin Design Award for the Milwaukee Intermodal Station.

Both projects are shining examples of the union contractors' and trades' commitment to a higher standard of excellence.

The Skilled Trades Joint Apprenticeship Tool Grant Association

Building Advantage is sponsoring the 2009 Tool Grant Program through an advertisement in the association's annual yearbook. Art McGlothlin, a retired IBEW 494 electrician, has successfully gained 501c3 status for the Tool Grant Program and also organized a banquet honoring the apprentices in all of the union construction trades.

The banquet will be held in fall 2009. Sponsorships are still available. If you are interested in supporting this worthwhile cause, please mail checks to:

Everyday Matters

Productivity is one of the many reasons why contractors use union labor. The work performed by union contractors and trades people is often done on time and on budget – saving the end user money while completing projects early.

Maintaining a high level of productivity is important to securing more work. Keep these thoughts in mind when you go to work each day and remember to always have a positive attitude on the jobsite.

  • If your actions inspire others to learn more, then do more – become a leader
  • It's better to deserve honors and not have them, than to have them and not deserve them
  • If you are part of the union construction industry, remember it is by choice
  • Teamwork – together we achieve the extraordinary
