WRTP and BIG STEP 2006 Year-end Report

The Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership (WRTP) and Building Industry Group Skilled Trades Employment Program (BIG STEP) released its 2006 year-end report detailing the Center of Excellence's success in placing Milwaukee residents in family-sustaining jobs. Over the last two years, BIG STEP has placed 473 community residents into construction jobs, including 150 apprenticeship placements. Participants receive an average hourly wage of $14.82 plus benefits.

African-Americans accounted for 61 percent of the placements, Caucasians accounted for 27 percent, Latinos accounted for 9 percent, Asian-Americans and Native-Americans accounted for 3 percent, and women accounted for 15 percent of placements.

BIG STEP is dedicated to improving communities and enhancing the careers of individuals. Its mission is to increase diversity of the construction workforce by offering a unique approach to the recruitment, pre-training and placement of apprentices in the construction industry.
