Looking Toward the Future by Working Together
By now, we are all aware of the economic downturn that is impacting the world and our industry. I want you to know Building Advantage is working hard to secure more projects by working with labor and management to forge stronger relationships.
In this issue, you will find stories that showcase how the collaboration between labor and management positively shapes our industry. First, you will read about one of the largest turnkey construction projects underway in the US the Oak Creek Power Plant. It currently employs nearly 2,700 Building Advantage members; steamfitters, electricians and boilermakers represent the majority of the workers. During these trying times, it has certainly helped all involved from local communities to our members, and is a fantastic example of labor and management collaboration.
You will also read about the Ironworkers Local 8, and how Brent Emons is working hard to ensure younger generations continue in the traditions of this great trade. The Ironworkers saw the value in bringing Brent back after he left the union office six years ago, and it's evident he continues to make strides within their Local.
Other stories you will find in this issue are a wrap-up of The Power of One 2008 jobsite tour, the history of the Faust Company, and how unions had a hand in nearly all of the top 25 projects in our area.
I hope you enjoy this issue, and as always if you have questions or comments, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Ken Kraemer, Executive Director
