Milwaukee's City Hall Restoration Receives Numerous Accolades
A couple of years ago, a Building Advantage newsletter article on the Milwaukee City Hall restoration project highlighted the impressive aspects of the project from the amount of bricks to the number of workers to unique building solutions. However, the end result has surpassed even those high expectations, and the project is receiving recognition for a number of reasons.
To begin with, the restoration came in under budget — a feat that many skeptics throughout the building process may be surprised to learn. The total price tag was just shy of $76 million, and was entrusted to our skilled members. The restoration wasn't a cut and dried project, and the cost-effective solutions our members presented kept the project on budget.
In addition, the project has generated local and national honors for those who worked on the restoration. Most impressive are the accolades amassed by all partners involved in the project:
- J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. received the Associated General Contractors Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award for its work building support and coordinating with a variety of contractors, owner groups, and state and local agencies
- Milwaukee's Downtown Business Improvement District presented J.P. Cullen and Engberg Anderson the "Brick and Mortar Award" at the Downtown Achievement Awards
- The Daily Reporter and Wisconsin Builder recognized the project as one of the 2008 Top Projects of the Year
- Frederick I. Olson Historic Preservation Award (Milwaukee County Historical Society) — City Hall Restoration Project
- Milwaukee Mayor's Urban Design Award — City Hall Restoration Project
The finished project is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the general contractor, sub-contractors and the men and women on-site. Their expertise and ability to work at a higher level each day is what made the project a success, and they deserve our heartfelt congratulations.
